"Light in the Dark(reaction) - Calvin Cycle and its regulation by light"

As part of the DFG funded research group 1261 the specific light driven regulation of the diatom Calvin Cycle pathway shall be investigated. This is a very interesting field of research as diatoms make up around 40% of all marine carbon fixation, which equals roughly 20% of global carbon primary production./Phaeodactylum tricornutum/, a pennate diatom which is a well established model organism in diatom research, is mainly studied in this project. The regulation is characterized at transcriptional, translational and enzymatic level and as well as by protein-protein interaction analysis to further the understanding of the diatoms adeptness at carbon dioxide fixation.
