• Welcome
    to the Leist Lab!

The chair of in vitro toxicology and biomedicine was established by the Doerenkamp-Zbinden Foundation in 2006 as Endowed Chair at the University Konstanz to promote research and teaching in the area of the 3R (Replacement of animal experiments) and in the field of novel toxicological approaches (transcriptome and metabolome analysis, identification of adverse outcome pathways, human cell-based models). In 2016, the professorship was taken over by the state Baden-Württemberg after a successful international evaluation.

  • Our research
    interests!

The research focuses on mechanisms, methods and model systems related to developmental toxicity, neurotoxicity and neurodegenerative disease. Pluripotent stem cells are used to generate cell types and models not otherwise accessible (e.g. human neural crest cells or neuronal subpopulations). The cell systems and novel tests are used to screen potential toxicants and to study mechanisms leading to loss of function and/or cell death.

  • CAAT-Europe

CAAT-EU, housed at the University of Konstanz, coordinates transatlantic activities to promote education in humane science and will participate in and/or coordinate publicly and privately funded projects.
