General Rules

  •  Contest is open to anyone, any age, any camera.
  •  Four categories, max. 2 photos per category
  •  Image requirement: max. 7 MB, only .jpg is permitted ( min. 3508x 4961 Pixel, or 30 x 40 cm / 300 dpi for good quality A3 print)
  •  Images violating current conservation or animal welfare regulations and / or have been taken in an irresponsible way are NOT permitted
  •  AIl generated pictures (e.g. AI) are NOT permitted
  •  Submission ends on 15 July 2024, 13.00 CET, via submission form
  •  Photos must be taken on University of Konstanz campus: Within and on campus buildings, Hockgraben, the "Universitätswald", and the immediate lake shore - check the map below

Four categories:

  1. Plants / Fungi
  2. Animals
  3. Landscape / Community - Photos of views on the natural surroundings of the university. These can be photos of the larger landscape or photos of for example grassland or forest communities
  4. Humans & Nature - Photos of humans investigating, documenting or simply enjoying nature on campus

Technical requirement and digital guidelines

After a pre-selection procedure, the jury will check the authenticity of digital images by reference to the original image files.

Only JPG files straight out of the camera are accepted as originals. Any kind of image processing (compressing, re-saving with an image editing software) leads to the file being considered not original. 
 

NOT PERMITTED:

1. adding or removing objects (e.g. animals, plants, people, items of civilization and traces thereof), digital collages

2. AI generated pictures

  • All photographs entered must be made with a camera.
  • No synthetic or artificially-generated images are allowed, and no use of artificially generative fill is allowed. Any use of generative AI will automatically disqualify the entry from the contest.
  • Entries will be subject to a thorough entry check process by the contest organization to determine whether they meet the above criteria.

Copyright and right to one's own picture

The photographer must be the author of the photographs submitted in his/her name. The photographer must be the copyright holder to submit the photographs.

For finalist and awarded entries, copyright holders grant the University of Konstanz unlimited non-exclusive use of high-resolution photographs in all media, including social media, online and print, in relation to the contest, the exhibition, the public archive and all promotional and education activities, without any remuneration being due.

For all entries, copyright holders grant the University of Konstanz non-exclusive use of submitted photographs for its educational and research activities, without any remuneration being due.

Final Clause

Submissions that do not fulfil all or some of the competition‘s requirements in terms of content, technical or any other aspect cannot receive consideration and will be excluded from the competition. It is the jury‘s decision to admit images whose fulfilment of the necessary requirements may be considered ambiguous. The jury‘s decisions will be final. By submitting images to the competition, the participant consents to the above competition rules.
