HiWi position available

Bio-logging, animal-attached data collection

Within the new Move.inFormation research group within he Biology Dept. and CASCB there is a HiWi position available from February 2024 for a minimum 6 months with possible extensions.

  • Tasks: the student will:

1. work with the Move.inFormation team and bio-logger suppliers to build a field kit of bio-logging devices for Andean Condors
2. run tests on devices for functionality under different natural scenarios and calibration of device sensors
3. build a data organisation protocol for the multiple bio-logging data types collected in the field

The position allows for up to 60 hours of work monthly for a minimum of 6 months with a possible extension whereby the student may also have the opportunity to:
- to develop research projects for your own studies
- join fieldwork in Argentina: setting up base stations, running equipment tests and possibly deploying bio-logging tags on Andean Condors (~April 2024)
- be involved in the research projects and publications that follow

  • Requirements: Undergraduate or Masters student in Biology, Engineering, or similar. An interest in movement data (bio-logging/collective movement) and good organisation skills are necessary with experience in coding of various languages advantageous, as is previous experience with field work preparation. Good communication skills (English necessary with German preferable) and a desire to work as part of an international/interdisciplinary team.
